Emergency Medical Scenarios For Practice & Reflection
What would you do?
Emergency Medical Scenarios drop you into the mess, pressure, and split-second decisions of real prehospital care. Created for ambulance clinicians, educators, and students, these case-based challenges test your thinking, not just your memory. Reflect, learn, adapt — and use them solo or in team-based teaching.
These sections are designed to prompt critical thinking and reinforce that real-world clinical reasoning rarely unfolds in perfect textbook order. We aim to support your confidence, not test your memory. Some scenarios may feel uncomfortable, imperfect, or ambiguous — that’s on purpose. This isn’t about getting it “right” every time. It’s about learning to think clearly under pressure, and knowing what tools (and people) are around to help when it counts.
Nobody likes a “know-it-all” — and nobody’s asking you to be one. Whether you’re just starting out or have years on the road, we’ve all got something to learn. There are no stupid questions, but some important questions don’t get asked. Here you can ask those questions, take note, and reflect. And if you get it wrong here? Good. Better here than out there.
If something doesn’t make sense — ask. Talk to your practice educators, tutors, clinical leads, or governance teams. Look up the latest guidance in JRCALC, NICE, or local Trust SOPs. We’ve included references and links where possible, but the conversation doesn’t stop here. You’re never on your own when it comes to doing right by a patient.
Leave your egos at the door and put on your gloves — have an extra pair in your pocket just in case. You never know.
